Christmas at Leigh Parish Church

Events this Christmas at St Mary the Virgin, Leigh Parish Church

Advent is such a busy time in the home and very much the case for us in church. Many organisations make use of our building for carol services, concerts, school productions and even films, and while it is always a great pleasure to welcome each and every person into St. Mary’s at this time of year we always feel exhausted on Christmas Day!

The Bible stories related to the birth of Jesus describe a rather chaotic way of being for Mary and Joseph: St. Luke’s Gospel tells of a census, a long journey and homelessness, with visits from shepherds, themselves outsiders to the polite society of the time. Despite the chaos and uncertainty the scene was set for the arrival of the most amazing baby ever to be born, one who changed the world both in his own time and in ours.

I do hope that even amid the busyness of the season you will be able to catch a glimpse of Jesus in your life. I wish you and your loved ones a joyful and happy Christmas.
